About Susan Rosson Spain
I've always loved to read. My favorite books when I was a child included: A Fly Went By (Mike McClintock) The Robert McCloskey books (especially Homer Price and Centerburg Tales) The Nancy Drew mysteries (Carolyn Keene) Classics, including: Little Women (Louisa May Alcott) Treasure Island (Robert Louis Stevenson) A Wrinkle in Time (Madeleine L'Engle) Charlotte’s Web (E. B. White) The Hobbit (J.R.R. Tolkien) To Kill a Mockingbird (Harper Lee)
Of Mice and Men (John Steinbeck)
Tuck Everlasting (Natalie Babbitt) When my four daughters were growing up, I sometimes read the books they were reading, too. I added Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH (Robert C. O’Brien) to my list of favorites when my oldest daughter, Jenny, brought it home. I’m still adding new favorite books for young people to my list all the time. (I recently added The Wednesday Wars by Gary D. Schmidt, The Slightly True Story of Cedar B. Hartley by Martine Murray, Jimmy's Stars by Mary Ann Rodman, Story of a Girl by Sara Zarr, and I Am the Messenger and The Book Thief by Marcus Zusak.) Here’s a photo of me reading one of the Arthur books (Marc Brown) to my grandson, Harrison (who is ten years old now and laughs at this picture):
Besides reading and writing, I love to ride my mountain bike, garden, and scuba dive. The main character in the book I just finished is a diver, too. Here I am diving in Bonaire and in Hawaii:
