PHOTOS and WRAP-UPS of other PAST EVENTS

As PAL (Published and Listed) Coordinator for the Southern Breeze Region of the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators, I get to do some pretty cool things. But at this year's Southern Breeze fall conference, something even cooler happened: I won the book basket! The book basket is a collection of books that have been donated by children's authors, and in this year's basket there were 37 books! The winner of the basket gets to donate the books to any library or school they choose, and it was my true honor to donate this year's basket to my hometown library, the Nancy Guinn Memorial Library in Conyers, Georgia. Here's a shot of me with the Children's Librarian, Lauren Knowlton. (And check it out--there's THE TWELVE DAYS OF CHRISTMAS IN GEORGIA, toward the back. I resisted the urge to put that one front and center!)

With the September release of our new picture book, TWELVE DAYS OF CHRISTMAS IN GEORGIA, illustrator Elizabeth Dulemba and I are making appearances all over the place!

On August 29, 2010 at the inaugural Suwanee Festival of Books, we had a fun Children's Stage presentation, complete with an audience sing-along of THE TWELVE DAYS OF CHRISTMAS--but with our slightly re-vamped lyrics. It was hilarious!

Click HERE for some cool "12 DAYS" stuff, like wallpaper, word searches, coloring pages, and crossword puzzles!

The very next weekend, September 4-5, 2010, we participated at the fabulous
Decatur Book Festival, the largest independent book festival in the country! Along with other members of the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators, we greeted our reading public and signed our books. With a big double-booth right next to the Children's Stage, we met so many aweoms kids and their folks!

November 14, 2009: Just in time for holiday shopping, the Savannah Children's Book Festival was held in Forsyth Park in Savannah, Georgia. I had a ball promoting our Southern Breeze Region of SCBWI, and signing copies of my novel THE DEEP CUT. (Barnes & Noble handled books sales for the festival and did an AWESOME job.)

October 17, 2009: The Southern Breeze Region of the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators' fall conference was held in Birmingham, Alabama. The faculty was superb: author Diane Z. Shore, Editor Calista Brill (First Second Books), Art Director Gayle Brown (Eerdmans Books for Young Readers), Agent Steven Chudney (The Chudney Agency), VP & Associate Publisher Kathy Landwehr (Peachtree Publishers), Editor Lynne Polvino (Clarion Books), Author Hester Bass, Author/Illustrator Sarah Campbell, Creativity Coach Rita Farin, Photographer Sandy Fry, Author Jo S. Kittinger, Author Carla K. McClafferty, and Author Brad Strickland. What an inspiring day! I happily signed copies of THE DEEP CUT.

Labor Day weekend in Altanta  meant the incredible Decatur Book Festival, the largest independent book festival in the country. Authors and illustrators from all over the country were featured speakers (performers, in some cases), making for an awesome event. I sold all my copies of THE DEEP CUT by 1 p.m. the first day! Here are a few shots as we were setting up the SCBWI - Southern Breeze Region booth. (After that, it was much too busy to take pictures.)
With me (in the green blouse) in front of our booth is my illustrator for 12 DAYS OF CHRISTMAS IN GEORGIA, the fabulously talented Elizabeth Dulemba. The author to the left, in pink is C. M. Fleming, author of a terrific murder mystery, FINDER'S MAGIC.
